Want to make calls from your Windows PC through VoxioTelecom without installing a full PBX? MicroSIP is a free, lightweight SIP softphone and works with our SIP trunks in a few minutes. This guide walks you through everything: creating the trunk in the portal, filling in every MicroSIP field, setting your caller ID, and dialing Premium CLI routes.

What you need

  • A VoxioTelecom account. Sign up at voxiotelecom.com/auth.
  • Balance on your account. Top up in crypto from Portal → Funds.
  • MicroSIP for Windows, downloaded from the official site microsip.org.
  • A caller ID (CLI) you are allowed to present, in international format, digits only (e.g. 4930901820).

Step 1: Create a SIP trunk in the VoxioTelecom portal

  1. Log in and open Portal → SIP Trunks (/portal/sip).
  2. Click New trunk.
  3. Enter a Label, for example MicroSIP laptop, and click Create trunk.
  4. A window shows your credentials: Host, Port, Username and Password. Copy them now. The password is shown only once.
  5. Optional: in the Caller ID column, pick how your number is sent: Pass-through (dynamic), Fixed Caller ID or Hide Caller ID. For MicroSIP, leave Pass-through so the number you set in MicroSIP is used.

Step 2: Add the account in MicroSIP

Open MicroSIP, click the small arrow at the top right and choose Add Account. Fill in the fields like this:

Why the caller ID goes in the "Username" field

This is the most common mistake. MicroSIP has two separate fields:

  • Login is used only for authentication. Put your SIP username from the portal here.
  • Username is what MicroSIP writes in the SIP From header. That is the caller ID the destination sees.

VoxioTelecom never overwrites your CLI on pass-through trunks. We send the number MicroSIP puts in the From header. If you put your SIP login in Username, the call goes out with a random string instead of a phone number. Many carriers then reject it or show "unknown". So:

Username = your caller ID (digits only, international format, no +, no spaces). Login = your SIP username from the portal.

To change your caller ID later, just edit the Username field in MicroSIP.

Step 3: Make your first call

Dial numbers in international format without + or 00:

  • Standard route: 4915112345678
  • Germany Premium CLI: put 1112 before the number: 11124915112345678
  • Other Premium CLI prefixes are listed in your rate deck in the portal and in our documentation.

Check the call in Portal → Calls to see duration and cost.

Troubleshooting

  • Status stays "Request timeout": check that Transport is UDP and that your firewall allows outgoing traffic on port 5060.
  • 403 Forbidden: Login or Password is wrong. Copy them again from the portal, or create a new trunk.
  • Call fails right away / 402 or 503: your balance may be too low. Top up from Portal → Funds.
  • Destination sees no number: the Username field doesn't contain a valid caller ID. Use digits only.
  • One-way audio: enable Allow IP Rewrite and set Public Address to Auto.

Still stuck? Open a ticket from Portal → Support with the number you called, the time and the error code.

FAQ

Is MicroSIP free?

Yes. MicroSIP is free, open-source software for Windows.

Can I use MicroSIP with Premium CLI routes?

Yes. Use the same account and add the tech prefix, e.g. 1112 for Germany Premium CLI.

Where do I put the caller ID in MicroSIP?

In the Username field. Your SIP login goes in Login.

Can I use several caller IDs?

Add one MicroSIP account per caller ID, all with the same Login and Password, and switch between them from the account menu.

Do I need a public IP?

No. VoxioTelecom trunks use username/password, so MicroSIP works behind any home or office router.
